I am part of the rubber boot revolution.
Today was a snowy/slushy/icy/stormy day. In other words, typical Montreal winter weather. Today was the first day i got to try out... MY RUBBER BOOTS.
My good friend Lu wore her pink rubber boots all winter and i was so jealous (they don't sell them in the dead of winter, only in spring and fall).
Why are they so good? They keep your feet DRY! No "winter boot" has ever been able to do that- no matter how "waterproof" they claim to be. Liars. All of them.
Every other winter i would start walking, get to a giant slushy puddle, then have to stand there (for sometimes up to 3 minutes) planning my route. Where to step? Where to jump? Anyways, it was always useless because i would always accidentally step in the deepest part at the last second, then have wet feet for the rest of the day.
Not today though! Today i trudged straight through the puddle, without even missing a beat. And my feet? DRY! dry dry dry.
Bless you rubber boots. Winters will be much warmer and dryer from now on.

I finally did it.. i adopted a cat!
Meet Samba! He's a 7month old mix siamese cat. I got him from a local shelter.
He is a bit shy right now, but he's starting to get used to his new home.
When he first got here he stayed under the couch for 2hrs! Finally he came out (with a little coaxing). He's since done a little exploring, ate (a tiny bit), and found his favorite spot (in between the couch and the table).
I think Samba and i are going to get along well :)

I thought I would show a bit of the process in which i make new characters.
This little dude is a commissioned drawing that will be put onto organic baby onesies (links to come in the next few months).
I start things off with a quick doodle. I then scan it in and trace it in Macromedia Flash. I then play with the smoothness of the lines, drawing different faces, trying different colors.
I love working digitally because its so easy to try so many different things without losing your original work. I also like the "undo" button - something that i always want when i'm oil painting!
The next step will be to decide on the face and body that works best. I will then color him and add shadows and highlights.
Final image to be posted soon!

Meet Buck. He's a Squirrel.
I had a chance to catch up with this busy guy for a few minutes.
Here's an excerpt of my interview with him:
JoannaGoldman Designs: Hi Buck and thanks for joining us.
Buck: No problem, glad to be here.
JGD: What's your favorite food?
B: Well, most people would think that it's acorns- but the truth is, nothing beats a nice fresh apple!
JGD: I love apples too! What hobbies do you have?
B: I like water skiing, bungee jumping, and rock climbing...
JGD: Whoa!! you are quite the extreme sports lover!
B: Totally. I love the feeling of adrenaline pumping through my veins.
Listen to the rest of the interview on your local squirrel vision channel.
His print can also be found here.
